The smallest ESP8266 module: add Wi-Fi to an Arduino or another microcontroller over UART, or flash your own firmware and use it as a standalone Wi-Fi node with two GPIO pins.
Powered from 3.3 V. For flashing, a USB adapter for ESP-01 is convenient.
